The Honourable Mr Justice Patrick CHAN Siu-oi, GBM

Mr Justice Chan became a Non-Permanent Judge of the Court of Final Appeal in 2013. Mr Justice Chan was born in Hong Kong in 1948. He obtained both an LLB and PCLL from the University of Hong Kong in 1974 and 1975 respectively. He was called to the Hong Kong Bar in 1976. Mr Justice Chan joined the Hong Kong Judiciary as a District Judge in 1987. He was appointed a Deputy Registrar of the Supreme Court in 1991. He served as a Judge of the High Court from 1992 until 1997 when he became Chief Judge of the High Court. From 2000 to 2013, he served as a Permanent Judge of the Court of Final Appeal. Mr Justice Chan was made an Honorary Bencher of the Inner Temple in 2001. He was conferred Honorary Fellowships by the University of Hong Kong and the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2003 and 2011 respectively. He was awarded the degrees of Doctor of Laws honoris causa by the City University of Hong Kong and the University of Hong Kong in 2008 and 2011 respectively. Mr Justice Chan is an Honorary Life Member of the Hong Kong Bar Association. He was awarded the Grand Bauhinia Medal in 2013.

Mr. C.M. Chan first joined the Council in 2016. In 2018, he was elected Vice-President of The Law Society and was re-elected in 2019 and 2020. In 2021, Mr. Chan was elected as President of The Law Society. Upon joining the Council, Mr. Chan has since been involved in the work of all 6 Standing Committees. Mr. Chan was the founding chairman of In-House Lawyers Committee. He is the incumbent Chairman of Greater China Legal Affairs Committee. He was a member of the International Bar Association Corporate Social Responsibility Committee (2007 - 2012) and LAWASIA as EXCO Member (since 2020). He serves on a number of statutory bodies, including the Board of Review (Inland Revenue) (2013 - 2018), the Committee on Provision of Space in the Legal Hub (2016 - 2020), HKICPA Disciplinary Panel, the Land Survey Disciplinary Board Panel (since 2021) and the Law Reform Commission (since 2021). He is also an external examiner of the Department of Professional Legal Education, the University of Hong Kong. Mr. Chan is qualified to practise as a solicitor in Hong Kong (1997) and England and Wales (2002). He is also a Civil Celebrant, Registered Financial Planner, and Chartered Tax Advisor. Mr. Chan holds an LLM degree from the London School of Economics, an MBA degree from the University of Oxford and an MPA degree from the Harvard University. Mr. Chan had practised in a notable law firm, where he advised high networth clients and corporations in relation to their asset management, trust, succession and tax planning matters. Thereafter, he became a legal adviser of different Family Offices for prominent families. Mr. Chan is now a General Counsel of an investment company and a part-time consultant of a local law firm. Mr Chan is also the Head of the Centre for the Rule of Law, Hong Kong Policy Research Institute.
Mrs Perenami MOMODU

Perenami is a Partner in the firm’s Dispute Resolution, Insolvency, Energy, Agriculture and Labour Practice Groups. She is regularly involved in high stakes, commercial disputes resolution before arbitral tribunals and superior courts. She is currently leading the team handling a portfolio of matters arising out of the privatisation & bid process, ownership and title of one of Nigeria’s major enterprises. She led a team that successfully represented an exploration and production company in an arbitration pertaining to assignment of interest and cost recovery in a marginal field to the tune of about US$40 million. She is also part of the team representing an investment and asset company in several litigation in relation to capital market disputes at the Securities and Exchange Commission and appeals at the Supreme Court. She renders advisory services to financial institutions, corporate organisations and multinational companies on insolvency, restructuring and turnaround of companies, mergers and acquisitions, schemes of arrangement and compromise, winding up, voluntary liquidation, receivership and bankruptcy. She is currently advising an international carrier on the cross-border insolvency issues arising out of the carrier’s administration process. In 2019, Perenami received a Special Recognition Award from the Vice-President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria – Professor Yemi Osinbajo – for her involvement with the proposed insolvency reforms in Nigeria.
